President's Message
May 2012
Once again, the Wasatch Gem Society, Rockhound Gem & Mineral Gala (the annual club show) was a huge success. I want give a special thanks to Carma Tenney and Connie Stanton for the work they have done in growing, organizing and running the show. I also want to give recognition to the members (and their families) that participated in set up, running and tear down of the show. Thanks to everyone that participated in some way.
This is a good time to remind all club members that the Annual Club Show and Gem Faire are the main way we fund the club. With the money generated by these activities the club is able to pay rent for a meeting location, provide meat for the potlucks, have a nice Christmas Party, pay for club insurance, fund future club shows and other everyday operations. To ensure the future of the club and these activities we MUST have greater member participation. If you are a member that does not participate please let me know what we can do to get you involved. Contact Kim Blanton at 801-504-1263 or by email at kimblanton2@aol.com.
We have a field trip planed for Memorial Day weekend to the Blue Forest in Wyoming. If you have questions please contact George Ream (field trip leader). We will have maps available at the May General Meeting. When on field trips this year, please don’t forget to collect items for the club (rough rock for bag fills and items for the silent auction).
Our next big event is Gem Faire, June 15-17. We will need donations for the Wheel of Fortune. These items should be rock related. If you have questions please contact Leonard Taylor at 801-255-2119, Kim Blanton at 801-604-1263 or Connie Stanton at 801-209-4390.
The annual show rock bag fill will be done at the Steak Fry in August. If you have donation of sewn bags or rough rock please contact Rick or Kim Blanton at 801-604-1263.
Don’t forget the new meeting location and time begins this month at the Murray Elks Lodge located at 4894 South Street at 7:00 P.M the program this month will be Stuart Burgess and others from the Mohave Underground. If you have program suggestions please contact Kim Blanton at 801-604-1263 or by email at kimblanton2@aol.com.
