Monthly President's Message

President’s Message – September 2017

Hello Rockhounds,

I hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer. We have had an extra warm summer and it looks like it will finally startr to cool off a bit this week as the summer winds down. We don't have any rock trips on the horizon for this year but I want to remind you that the second weekend of October is the gathering at Floy wash. All the Utah clubs go this meeting place as well as others from Colorado and New Mexico. You will meet a lot of new friends there. They will be caming in the area of Ruby Ranch as listed in the Rockhounding Utah book. If you need more information you can ask me. I won't be going this year, but I wish I was. This trip coincides with the Moab Rock show which will be on the 13th, 14th, and 15th of October. People usually congregate at the Ruby Ranch locale and then take day trips to various collecting sites as well as the Moab show. They usually have a pot luck dinner on Saturday night. I have a volunteer for field trip chairman for next year so hopefully we will get some field trips scheduled. If you have requests you can get them in now for consideration and scheduling.

I hope everyone had a good time at the steak fry in August. Our guest speaker at the regular club meeting will be Steve Engle and he will be discussing Topaz Mountain. So come and listen and bring your questions. If anyone has an idea for a program please let me know. Bruce Birchell has been doing a great job lining up programs and he will appreciate your ideas and suggestions for future programs.

We also have Gem Faire this month. It will be the 22nd to the 24th with setup on the 21st. We really need someone to volunteer to be in charge of the Gem Faires at least the setup and take down activities. I will be discussing this at the meeting on the 18th. We will be passing around a sign up sheet at the regular meeting as well. Please come and sign up to work and help the club. Between the three Gem Faires we generate enough income to rent our meeting facility. So it does go for a good cause.

Well there is still time to take a couple more trips this year so remember to be safe and happy rock hounding.

 Thank you,

      George Ream, President
